Blaauwbosch is a discrete collection of thatch roof chaletsin a crisp unspoiled landscape. Set in the heart of the malaria-free foothills of the Winterhoek mountain range in the Karoo, Eastern Cape, the lodge is newly established but is mindful of the sensitivity of its location. The reserve offers a unique and private experience where guests can relax in comfort, yet it is only 110kms from Port Elizabeth.

Blaauwbosch comprises of seven luxurious thatch roof chalets accommodating a maximum of only 14 guests at any one time. The suites are spacious and designed to create your own sanctuary. There is a swimming pool set under the shade of thorn trees for guests to relax from the heat of the day.

Game drives happen in the mornings and evenings, and offer a wide variety of game including the ‘Big 5’, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, antelope and abundant birdlife. A walk-and-stalk safari is also on offer and involves shadowing the fastest of all hunters, the cheetah. Places of interest to visit in the area include the Addo Elephant National Park, the historic town of Graaff-Reinet, Valley of Desolation, Nieuw Bethesda and its famous Owl House.

This is real food country. The emphasis of the menu is on fresh contemporary flavours with a nod to universally appealing dishes. Guests are encouraged to venture beyond their familiar repertoire of tastes, and match food with a fine selection of South African wines. Blaauwbosch choose wines from the smaller estates ensuring that guests sample wine that they may not have experienced anywhere else.
