Chiawa Camp

Chiawa Camp & Old Mondoro, Zambia

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Resting peacefully on the river bank, in a grove of mahogany and acacia trees, Chiawa Camp is constructed essentially of natural materials, and is designed to ensure its idyllic setting can be fully appreciated. Sixteen guests can be accommodated in 8 well-appointed safari tents, each on a raised timber deck with private veranda. All tents are under thatch with en-suite facilities with hot and cold running water, twin or double beds, insect screens and solar-powered lighting.

The spacious lounge and bar area has an observation platform built into its roof, providing one of the best views in the valley. The dining area looks out onto the river and the animals which come to drink and feed near the lodge.

Safari activities include morning and evening game drives, guided bush walks, canoeing along the riverbank with excellent viewing of birds and other wildlife, and relaxing on the comfortable pontoon boats for river safaris. Expert guides cater for all levels of anglers and guests have an opportunity to catch the world’s toughest of fresh water fish - the Tigerfish.

Enjoy barbeques under the stars on our al-fresco dining veranda, while your hosts oversee your comfort and the preparation of Chiawa's renowned cuisine.
Chiawa welcomes children of 12 years and older; children younger than 12 years require prior and special arrangement.

OLD MONDORO BUSH CAMP is situated nearby in the most beautiful setting in the Lower Zambezi with the camp on a smaller channel off the Zambezi with beautiful river frontage that is an ideal location for elephants to wallow, buffalo to graze and home to a wide variety of bird species. The camp has 4 “bush chalets” with en-suite facilities, flushing toilets, canvas bucket showers and there are paraffin lanterns for lighting. The camp is basic with one lounge dining area under cover and an outdoor boma area. Old Mondoro must be booked in conjunction with a stay at Chiawa Camp.
