We will fly to Churchill and transfer to
our Tundra Lodge via tundra vehicle,
taking care to photograph along the
way. This afternoon and evening
we will have our first opportunities
for bear viewing. We will also have
a chance to gather and meet
our photo tour leaders, to share
experiences and discuss Arctic photography.
Day
3 - 6:Tundra Lodge
As the Tundra Lodge is mobile,
it is strategically positioned at the
beginning of each season in the best
area for bear viewing.
During our time spent on the tundra,
we will have wonderful early morning
and late afternoon/evening photo
opportunities, giving us a unique
chance to photograph these animals
at sunrise and sunset.
Since the lodge has plenty of
common space - a ‘great room’ with
tables and chairs as well as a dining
car, each with sliding windows -
photographers will have plenty
of space for shooting at will.
Bears often come within close range
and approach our lodge, which
is also equipped with fenced
observation decks to accommodate
our own curiosity.
Our unique location, combined
with the opportunity for half-day
excursions around the tundra in our
on-site tundra vehicle, afford us
some of the best possible wildlife
experiences in the Churchill area. At the end of a day of exploration, we
can retire to our warm, comfortable
accommodations for dinner and
presentations.
If we are lucky, the northern lights may
grace us with their eerie presence in
the night-time skies, and the glowing
eyes of Arctic fox, bears, and other
wildlife may be visible in the light our
hotel casts across the frozen ground.
Day
7: Churchill / Winnipeg
This morning, we bid a fond farewell
to our tundra home and head back
into town for our flight to Winnipeg.
Depending on flight schedules,
we may have some time for last
minute exploration and a chance to
pick up Arctic souvenirs. We will enjoy
a farewell lunch in Churchill or dinner
in Winnipeg.
Day
8: Winnipeg / Home
After breakfast, we will be transferred
to the airport for our return flights home.
OPTIONAL ADD-ON
We have arranged for an exclusive
helicopter adventure to the tundra
to view the north’s most intriguing
wildlife. Track Arctic wolves, migrating
caribou, Arctic fox and the mighty
polar bear from a unique aerial
perspective as we fly over the
captivating northern environs. This vast
land of endless lakes and colourful
tundra also reveals ancient pre-Dorset
tent rings and intriguing archeological
sites. Our helicopters enable you
to be among the very few privileged
visitors to travel to this remote and
wild region.
Includes: 1 half hour journey (generally
one hour of flying time. The total journey
may be shorter if it is too cold to spend
30 minutes walking on the tundra).
